The Boxtrolls by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel

This story is about an orphan named Eggs who has been taken in by boxtrolls when he was a baby. Boxtrolls sleep during the day, collect bits and bobs and Β from the streets of Cheesebridge during the night to build their gadgets, and eat bugs. The boxtrolls are disappearing each night and Eggs must get to the bottom of it. Β Can Eggs and his new human friend Winnie save his family and defeat the evil boxtroll exterminator Snatcher? They will find out a lot about themselves and the character of the people they think they know the best.

I originally picked up this book because it is based on the new movie, which I now cannot wait for! This book has very loveable characters, an evil villain you love to hate, and wonderful life lessons hidden in the pages. Β Most of the action happens in the last half of the book, so if you are having a hard time getting into this story, stick with it. Its worth it!

This novel and movie are based on a book called Here Be Monsters! by Alan Snow. Β I have not read it yet, but I’m very excited to check it out!

If I stay

I love books made into movies! I love picking out the differences and trying to imagine why directors decide to take parts out, or put new scenes in. I don’t get angry when they don’t get the hair color just right on a character, or if all the facts are not 100% there. Instead, I let the actors bring the story to life and enjoy each version. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

If I stay was an amazing book. Heads up folks….the beginning is pretty graphic. The effects of the car crash are described in great detail. Gayle Forman really took you there, as she does throughout the book. Scenes from the past and scenes from the present are seamlessly intertwined through the main characters senses. It was easy to follow and always came back around to the point at hand. Seriously, job well done Gayle!

This book will tug at your heart strings and make you appreciate the life you have! It will make you realizeΒ  the important things in life, like family, friends and love.

I have not seen the movie yet! But I am very excited to check it out! Here is the official trailer. It gives you a very small taste of what you can expect…from the book at least.Β
