This post is about the whole series so far, but I have only put up the summary for book#1 because the others have spoilers!
I have been been hearing so much about this series for so long! I had never really thought much about it until I slowly introduced myself to the world of graphic novels!
On the back of book #1 there is a blurb from Jeff Smith, the creator of BONE. It says “Five – no, three pages into Amulet and you’ll be hooked.”. I quickly found this to be true as I stood in my local book store and read the first 3 pages. Hooked! I was hooked and immediately needed more!!
The only thing I regret about reading this series is that I read it too quickly!! I am done book #6- Escape From Lucien, and now I have to wait!!
Book 7 – Firelight comes out March 1st, 2016!! Waiting is hard!!!
All of the Amulet books are action packed adventures with unexpected turns of events!! You definitely don’t see a lot of the twists coming!!
The themes tend to be family, friendship, loyalty, trusting your instincts and believing in yourself! There is also a lot of picking yourself up after a fall and staying strong! Remembering what’s important!
With the growing popularity in graphic novels, I’m happy these books are out there! I know a lot of parents would rather their children read novels, but it is still reading! Especially for kids who don’t enjoy reading just yet. Also, they will be learning valuable lessons! There are some intricate plot lines and heavy concepts that your kids are going to grasp! While having fun doing it! I find that graphic novels are excellent for helping me out of my reading slumps!
Go ahead and devour Amulet! They won’t take long to read at all, but the stories and concepts will stay with you for quite a while!
If you’re not having fun,
You’re not reading the right books!
BROTHERS ACE AND BUB have the perfect life on Beaver Island. But when a group of evil penguins schemes to convert the island into a polar-themed resort, their entire way of life is threatened. Suddenly Ace and Bub are the only thing standing between their beloved island and an eco-disaster. Do they have what it takes to save the day?
I loved this story! It felt very Canadian! The fun never stops in this one! The humor is sarcastic and quick witted. The story line is fast paced and action packed! And the plot is crazy, unbelievable and so much fun!
I can’t wait to see what Ace and Bub are up to next!
I gave this book a *9/10*
Make sure to check out The Flying Beaver Brothers and The Evil Penguin Plan! It’s a quick, snappy read that’s sure to make you laugh out loud!
After the Threads of Time failed to return Jack back to the past, he searches for a new way to return to his rightful era.
But will Jack be willing to risk his magical blade in order to open a new portal to the past?
First off, this book isn’t released yet. The release date is set for March 31st, 2015.
I must admit, while I have heard of Samurai Jack, I didn’t really know that much about him at all. I didn’t know that this graphic novel would include robots and aliens for instance. It took me a couple of pages to catch up, but once I did I was flying!
This story has lots of action, suspense, humor, and some really excellent life lessons about being stronger than you think you are and doing the right thing! The flashbacks were well timed and easy to follow. You really feel like you know the character that much more from having these glimpses into their pasts!
I can’t wait to hear more about Samurai Jack! Not only will I be getting volumes 1 and 2 to catch up, but I’ll be looking forward to volume 4 as well!
* I rate this book 8/10*
Raina can’t wait to be a big sister. But once Amara is born, things aren’t quite how she expected them to be. Amara is cute, but she’s also a cranky, grouchy baby, and mostly prefers to play by herself. Their relationship doesn’t improve much over the years, but when a baby brother enters the picture and later, something doesn’t seem right between their parents, they realize they must figure out how to get along. They are sisters, after all.
This was officially my first graphic novel! And I loved it! At first I thought I would be missing a lot of important information for not reading Smile first, But it turns out I was wrong. It did, However, make me want to read Smile even more than before.
Being a big sister myself, I found this story very relatable! Especially because my family took road trips every year to visit relatives. Very long road trips. At least 3 days one way in a van with my sisters and my parents. There was a lot of fighting, crying, laughing, games and memory making (just like in this story!) and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
This story has a lot of laugh out loud moments, but there are a lot of serious moments that come along with growing up. I thought it was very well-rounded with the humourous and sentimental.
A kind of biography built just for kids! If you want a break from reading dystopian, magical, mythical, paranormal stories, or just want to try something new, read Sisters by Raina Telgemeier! I’m happy I did! 🙂
