Scaredy Squirrel goes camping by Mèlanie Watt

Scaredy Squirrel is not too comfortable with the idea of camping … unless it’s on his couch! There will be no mosquitoes, skunks or zippers to worry about when he watches a show about the joys of camping on his brand-new TV. But first Scaredy must find an electrical outlet, and that means going into the woods! Will the nutty worrywart’s plans prepare him for the great outdoors, or will his adventure end up as a scary story told around the campfire?

I gave this book a *9/10*

What an excellent read! The intro warning to this book had me guessing until I got a few pages in. I just couldn’t put it together right away! Make sure ur zippers are done up everyone!

We all know someone who thinks just like scaredy squirrel. They avoid the big bad wilderness and prefer the comforts and predictability of home! I had fun imagining them doing all of the things that scaredy squirrel does. 😉

I love that we learn the survival supplies before we read what the survival supplies are for. Once again…I just couldn’t put it together! What would scaredy squirrel need a bag of cement for?!?

The Rubber Boot Camp and Fitness training charts give excellent segways into children creating their own warm up routine and obstacle course!! The outdoor conditions chart gives us a chance to discuss weather and maybe make our own charts! I just couldn’t help but think up ideas for a classroom setting!

Not only is this story a excellent learning tool, but it captures the fun, magical essence of camping! By the end of the book I was just itching to run off on my own camping trip!

If you love science, nature, or list making…check out this book!! Read it to prepare for your own camping trip!! This book is worth the read 😘

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce

Morris Lessmore loved words.
He loved stories.
He loved books.
But every story has its upsets.
Everything in Morris Lessmore’s life, including his own story, is scattered to the winds.
But the power of story will save the day.
Stunningly brought to life by William Joyce, one of the preeminent creators in children’s literature, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a modern masterpiece, showing that in today’s world of traditional books, eBooks, and apps, it’s story that we truly celebrate—and this story, no matter how you tell it, begs to be read again and again.

This was such a magical read. This story, like so many others, was recommended to me by a friend, and it has been one of my favorites ever since.

Although it is a 3-5 storybook, I have recommended it to the 6-8 age group as well. It’s fun and has enough words to keep a beginner reader interested. I find that anyone who enjoys reading and/or pixar movies tends to enjoy this read as well. It’s got a very pixar- like feel to it.

This story shows just how much books can light up someone’s life and color their world! The right story can make all the difference!

The video version of the book was awarded an Oscar for best animated short film at the 84th Academy awards!

Everyone should check out each version! They are both amazing!!
